CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Kansas baseball begins its 135th season, and the third under head coach
Dan Fitzgerald, on Friday with a four-game series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field. This will be the fourth-straight year that Kansas opens the season at the home of the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Houston Astros Double-A affiliate.
Â
Kansas finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 31-23 and a 15-15 record in conference play. The 31 wins were the most for Kansas since 2019 and the 15 victories in Big 12 games were tied for the most in program history. The Jayhawks also advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship in 2024 for the first time since 2013.
Â
"Year one was so much about establishing culture, year two was about taking a step forward and I think year three is about taking another step," Fitzgerald said when asked about the process of building the program. "I know the guys have high expectations for themselves and I know my staff does as well."
Â
Kansas had eight players from the 2024 roster move on to play professional baseball (six draft picks and two free agent signees). That was the most players in a single year in program history. The six draft picks were the most by Kansas in the top 20 rounds of an MLB Draft in program history.
Â
One Jayhawk who was not drafted last season and is back to headline the pitching staff in 2025 is sophomore
Dominic Voegele. Voegele has been named the Big 12 Preseason Pitcher of the Year, a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and a Preseason All-American by D1Baseball, NCBWA and Perfect Game. He is the first in program history to be named Big 12 Preseason Pitcher of the Year and the first in program history to receive a preseason All-America selection from three different publications.

Following the season, Voegele was named a freshman All-American by D1Baseball, Baseball America, NCBWA and Perfect Game. Voegele also received Big 12 Freshman of the Year, All-Big 12 Second Team and Big 12 All-Freshman Team. In addition, he earned a spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
