STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Kansas baseball will travel to Tarleton State this weekend for a three-game series that now begins on Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. CT. The first game of the series was originally scheduled for Friday but has been adjusted due to freezing temperatures on Friday.
Kansas has started the year 4-0 for the first time since the 2014 season. The Jayhawks recorded a four-game series sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the first four-game series sweep on the road against a Division I opponent since 1978. Kansas outscored Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 44-6 in the series.
"I thought we did a great job this past weekend of pitching and attacking the zone," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said. "Defensively, for the most part, we took care of the baseball and on offense, we protected the plate and had a great approach. We need to continue to play clean baseball to be successful this weekend at Tarleton State."
Sophomore
Brady Ballinger, junior
Dariel Osoria and senior
Tommy Barth each hit safely in all four games on opening weekend. Osoria leads the team with a .467 batting average and 10 RBIs. Meanwhile, Ballinger hit the first home run of the season for the Jayhawks and Barth had multiple clutch hits, including the go-ahead hit in extra innings of the season opener.
Tarleton State (3-1) played Butler on opening weekend and won the first three games before dropping the series finale. The Texans scored 58 runs in the series and hit .385 as a team. The pitching staff posted a 6.00 ERA in the four games against Butler.
