LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas women's tennis team fell to No. 17 UCF 4-1 in Orlando on Sunday afternoon. The Jayhawks move to 9-7 (3-3 Big 12) and the Knights move to 14-1 (6-0 Big 12).
The Jayhawks started off the match strong by winning two out of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. On court one, the pair of Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse van Vuuren picked up the win over UCF's Olivia Lincer and Hannah Rylatt 6-3. Kansas secured the point with a win 6-4 by Anna Putilina and Kyoka Kubo over Donatella Guarnieri and Olivia Bergler on court three.
UCF responded quickly by winning matches on courts one and five. On court one, Mulville fell to Lincer 2-6, 4-6. On court five, Meriem Ben Ezzedine fell to Bergler in two sets, 2-6, 1-6.
The Jayhawks continued to battle, but ultimately dropped two more matches, granting UCF the victory. On court three, Kubo battled against No. 88 Biolay but fell in a 3-6, 3-6 match. On court two, UCF's No. 83 El Aouni closed out the match with a win over Kansas' Maria Titova 6-1, 6-4.
Two matches went unfinished, as van Vuuren was leading against Jade Psonka 7-5, 4-2 on court four and Arystanbekova was battling against Rylatt in a 2-6, 4-2 match on court six.
Up Next Kansas will return home for a Big 12 match against TCU on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
