TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 22 Kansas baseball dropped its non-conference game against No. 23 Arizona by a score of 5-0 at Hi Corbett Field on Tuesday night. The Kansas offense was held to four hits and the Jayhawks were shutout for the first time this season.
Â
Arizona (16-4) scored two runs in the first inning, one run in the second and two runs in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead that would hold the rest of the game. Neither team scored after the fourth inning. Kansas fell to 17-4 overall on the season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Arizona jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. A sac fly by Maddox Mihalakis scored the first run and a passed ball brought in a second run. The second run of the inning was unearned.
• The Wildcats scored another run in the second inning on an RBI single by Brendan Summerhill to make it a 3-0 Arizona lead.
• Arizona added two more runs in the fourth inning with an RBI triple from Summerhill and a sacrifice fly by Aaron Walton. That brought the score to 5-0 Arizona.
• Kansas had one of its best opportunities offensively in the eighth inning with runners on first and second with one out. A line drive to the second baseman who was shifted up the middle was caught and turned into a double play to end the inning.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"They punched us out 13 times and we walked twice. You throw the four hits in there and we're still way negative on the night. Conversely, we got off to a rough start in the first. Brigden couldn't get out of the first and we spotted them two runs. We almost got lucky and got one on the tag, but when you're hoping a guy didn't tag up you're either in a nail biter late in a game or you're just wishing early because you're in trouble. We did settle them down. We had a couple chances with the lead off guy on and then in the eighth we lined into a double play. They are a really good ball club and they're going to be really, really tough in the Big 12. They hosted a regional last year, won the Pac-12 regular season and conference tournament, so that's a very, very formidable new member of the Big 12. They're going to give a lot of people trouble. That's not how we play and it's really frustrating that's what we did tonight." – Head Coach
