Jayhawks Compete in Jayhawk Spring Fling to Open Outdoor Season

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Track & Field opened up their 2025 outdoor schedule by competing in the Jayhawk Spring Fling Saturday afternoon at Rock Chalk Park.
Kansas competed against Baker, Pittsburg State, and Kansas City Saturday afternoon at Rock Chalk Park, in the first event of the 2025 outdoor season.
Kansas was highlighted by freshman Kori Randle, who won the Women's Long Jump, with a mark of 6.19 meters. Behind her was another Jayhawk, junior Brenna Schwanda finished the event in second place with a jump of 5.49 meters. Freshman Isaiah Kayembe won the Men's Long Jump with a PR of 7.19m (23-7 ft.).
In Women's Pole Vault, junior Kade Joslin, freshman Madi Snoody, and senior Gabby Hoke all cleared the 4.02-meter bar, with Hoke clearing the final bar at 4.17 meters to take home first place in the event. In the Men's Pole Vault, senior Bradey Koolen and freshman Bryce Barkdull both cleared the 5.17-meter bar.
In the running events, Kansas was featured by sophomore Jerimiah Smith who won the 110-meter hurdles by running a time of 14.26 seconds. Freshmen Dean McClure and Aaron Merritt finished just behind Smith, making for an all-Jayhawk podium in the 110-meter hurdles.
Kansas saw continued success in the running events throughout the afternoon, placing first in 15 out of 16 running events to start the outdoor season. Freshman Tristan Williams was another key Jayhawk, as he won the 200-meter dash by running a time of 21.28 seconds.
Kansas capped off the event by dominating in the Men's 4x400 relay, where the Jayhawks ran a time of 3.26.09 to defeat Kansas City by over 10 seconds. The Women's 4x400 relay was more of the same, as the Jayhawks won by over 20 seconds.

Kansas will stay in state for their next event, traveling to Emporia, Kan. for the ESU Relays. The event will take place from Mar. 27-30 on the campus of Emporia State University.
