LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas continues its season-long six-game homestand this weekend with a three-game conference series against Oklahoma State at Hoglund Ballpark. The Jayhawks are in the midst of a stretch of eight games in 10 days.
Â
"It was great to be back at Hoglund for our midweek games and we look forward to another great weekend of Big 12 baseball," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said.
Â
Kansas (20-6, 3-3 Big 12) is fresh off a two-game midweek sweep of St. Thomas. The Jayhawks scored 24 runs in the two games, including a 16-run effort on Wednesday resulting in a run-rule victory. KU has scored at least 10 runs in nine games this season and leads the Big 12 in runs per game with 9.4, which also ranks 10th nationally.
Â
A key to the high scoring production has been the long ball for the Jayhawks. Kansas leads the Big 12 and is fifth in the nation with 52 home runs this season. The program record for home runs in a season is 75. Kansas has posted an 18-2 record this year when hitting a home run.
Â
Offensively, Kansas also leads the conference with 180 walks (fifth nationally), 279 hits (tied for 12th nationally), a .556 slugging percentage (ninth nationally) and 245 runs scored (eighth nationally).
Â
Oklahoma State (12-10, 1-3 Big 12) enters the weekend after beating Wichita State 9-5 on Tuesday night. The Cowboys traveled to Utah a week ago and dropped two out of three games to the Utes. Colin Brueggemann leads Oklahoma State offensive with a .360 batting average and a 1.084 OPS this season. Harrison Bodendorf has started the season with a 5-0 record and will get the start for the Cowboys on Friday.
