
Kansas Drops Back-and-Forth Match to BYU, 4-3

PROVO, Utah - Kansas women's tennis battled with BYU but came up short in a back-and-forth match, falling 4-3Â in Provo, Utah on Saturday.
Kansas falls to 11-9 (5-5 Big 12) while BYU improves to 16-6 (6-3 Big 12), including 9-1 at home this season.
Kansas fell behind early in doubles play, as BYU held the advantage on all three courts. On court two, Kansas' duo of Jasmine Adams and Yerkezhan Arystanbekova fell to BYU's Bobo Huang and Sue Yan Tan, 6-2. BYU claimed the doubles point with another win on court three as Kansas' Kyoka Kubo and Anna Putilina fell to Grace Levelston and Elizabeth Tullis of BYU, 6-0.
The Jayhawks fought back in singles play with an early win on court four, as van Vuuren defeated BYU's Bluestein in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 to tie the match at 1-1.
Midway through singles play, rain caused both teams to move inside to play out the remainder of the match. Following the break, Kubo finished off Kovick, 6-1, 7-6 (3) behind a strong finish in the second set, giving the Jayhawks the lead at 2-1. The win improved Kubo to 10-6 in singles this season, marking her second-straight 10-win season.
After BYU evened the score at 2-2 with a win on court five, the remaining three matches came down to a third set to determine a winner.
Kansas retook the advantage on court two as senior Maria Titova battled to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win over Levelston of BYU. Moments later, No. 67 Mulville dropped court one, 7-6 (2), 2-6, 2-6, to Huang to even the score at 3-3.
The match came down to court six, where freshman Meriem Ben Ezzedine battled with BYU's Madison Smith to a third-set tiebreak. Despite battling back from trailing 6-0 in the tiebreak, Ben Ezzedine fell, 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (4), to give BYU the 4-3 victory.

Kansas finishes its Big 12 road schedule on Saturday, April 5 as they travel to Ames, Iowa to take on the Iowa State Cyclones. The Jayhawks will conclude their regular season with a pair of home matches vs. Oklahoma State on April 11 and Kansas State on April 13.
