LAWRENCE, Kan. -Kansas women's tennis fell to No. 19 Oklahoma State, 4-1 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The loss dropped Kansas to 12-10 overall and 6-6 in Big 12 Conference play, while Oklahoma State improves to 17-6 overall and 11-1 in Big 12 play. The Cowgirls have won 10 straight matches.
Kansas battled hard through doubles action but ultimately dropped the doubles point as Oklahoma State took two out of the three matches. On court three, the pair of Kyoka Kubo and Anna Putilina picked up a 6-3 win over Melisa Ercan and Gracie Epps.
Court one featured a ranked matchup between Kansas' No. 33 Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse van Vuuren versus Oklahoma State's No. 9 duo of Rose Marie Nijkamp and Anastasiya Komar. The match went into a 6-6 tiebreak, but Nijkamp and Komar came out on top, winning 7-6 (2) over Mulville and van Vuuren.
Leading 1-0, Oklahoma State continued the momentum into singles action, as the Cowboys took three matches to clinch the match over the Jayhawks. Court two finished up first, as No. 65 Komar beat Maria Titova in two sets, 6-1, 6-3. Oklahoma State picked up another win on court five with No. 70 Epps defeating Arystanbekova 6-2, 6-4. The Cowboys won the match over the Jayhawks with Ercan's 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 102 Mulville on court one.
Kansas picked up one singles win on court three, as Kubo moved to 12-6 on the season with her 6-3, 6-2 win over Collins.
Van Vuuren took No. 121 Nijkamp to three sets on court four in a close 2-6, 6-1, 1-2 match before it went unfinished. Court six also went unfinished, as Putilina battled No. 115 Lopez in a tight 6-2, 3-6 match.
Up Next Kansas will finish the regular season on Sunday, April 13 at 12 p.m. when the Jayhawks host Kansas State for the Dillons Sunflower Showdown. Sunday's match will also serve as Senior Day, as the Jayhawks will recognize three seniors, Gracie Mulville, Maria Titova and Jasmine Adams.
