Kansas Sweeps Kansas State on Senior Day

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas women's tennis won the Dillons Sunflower Showdown in dominating fashion over Kansas State, 4-0, on Senior Day at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kansas on Sunday.
"I'm so proud of our three seniors and the way our team competed today," head coach Todd Chapman said. "When your three seniors lead the way, it makes it much easier, and we did that today."
Kansas finishes the regular season at 13-10 overall and 7-6 in Big 12 play, marking the Jayhawks' most Big 12 regular season wins since the 2019 season. Kansas State finishes the regular season at 9-11 overall and 6-7 in Big 12 play.
With the win, Kansas notches its fifth-straight win over Kansas State while improving the overall series record to 14-10 all-time.
"We have a lot of tennis left to play. I've told this group all year that they can achieve whatever they choose to achieve if we play the right way and play hard," Chapman said. "I still believe our best tennis is in front of us … we want to go to Waco to compete for the Big 12 Championship and beyond that compete in the NCAA Tournament."
Kansas started off strong in doubles action, winning two matches to clinch the doubles point over the Wildcats. On court three, the duo of Kyoka Kubo and Anna Putilina defeated Veronika Kulhava and Tereza Polakova, 6-2. The Jayhawks won court two, as Jasmine Adams and Yerkezhan Arystanbekova beat Sara Garakani and Maria Santos in a quick 6-2 match.
On court one, the Jayhawks' No. 33 Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse van Vuuren battled against the Wildcats' Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Charlotte Keitel in a tight 4-4 match before it went unfinished.
Kansas kept the momentum going into singles action, as the Jayhawks won three straight matches to clinch the match over the Wildcats. No. 102 Mulville improved to 13-7 on the year with her 6-2, 6-2 win over Chogsomjav on court one. On court two, Maria Titova picked up her eighth win this season by defeating Keitel in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Kansas won the match on court three, as Kubo moved to 13-6 this season with her win over Kulhava in a quick 6-2, 6-2 match.
Matches on courts four, five, and six went unfinished. On court four, van Vuuren battled Santos in a close 7-6(3), 0-0 match. On court five, Adams fought against Polakova in a back-and-forth 6-4, 1-3 match. On court six, Putilina was winning over Garakani in a 6-4, 3-2 before it went unfinished.

Kansas will compete in the Big 12 Championship in Waco, Texas from April 16-19. The Big 12 Championship bracket will be released following all regular season competitions.
