IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Kansas men's golf team will conclude its regular season at the Hawkeye Invitational, held April 13-14 at Finkbine Golf Course. This marks the fifth consecutive season the Jayhawks have competed in the event.
Kansas Head Coach Jamie Bermel will carry a familiar lineup into the Hawkeye Invitational, featuring senior Gunnar Broin, juniors Will King and Luke Honner, sophomore Max Jelinek and freshman Ty Lasley. Sophomore Noah Holtzman will compete as the individual.
"Finkbine is a golf course we have played many times. Several of the guys have played many rounds so there is a comfort level we have this week which is nice," said Bermel. "Weather forecast is calling for wind so I'm certain we will need to be grinding for 36 holes. The guys had a good week of practice and I am certain they will be ready to go."
Broin has anchored the lineup all season in the No. 1 spot, posting a team-best 70.65 scoring average. He earned his first collegiate victory at the Sea Island Invitational on March 18, finishing 8-under in just 36 holes.
King closely trails Broin with a 70.84 scoring average and has played the No. 2 position in eight events. He has two top-three finishes, including his most recent outing at the Cowboy Classic.
Jelinek has competed in every event this season, recording four rounds in the 60s and two under-par tournament finishes. He tied for 26th at the Cowboy Classic at 2-under.
Honner has been a standout in the spring, finishing three straight events under par, highlighted by a T-12 and a T-8 finish. He holds a 72.78 scoring average on the season.
Lasley carries a 74.33 scoring average into his fourth event of the season. Lasley is making his fourth consecutive start in the Kansas lineup with his best collegiate finish coming most recently at the Johnnie-O at Sea Island, tying for 26th at -2.
Holtzman has also played in every tournament this season, averaging a score of 73.46 per round. He owns a top-20 finish and has fired five rounds in the 60s.
The two-day tournament will feature 36 holes on Monday, April 13, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday, April 14. Both rounds will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
