LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 14 Kansas suffered its first defeat this season, as the Jayhawks fell 3-0 to Baylor Thursday night at Rock Chalk Park.Â
Â
"We came out with some energy, and we created as clean of a chance as you get," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said about the game. "Hit the crossbar, Livvy (Moore) probably scores that nine times out of 10. It's all right, that stuff happens."Â
Â
Lie continued, "But at that moment, I believe I looked up, and it was something like 13, 14-3 on shot. It felt like we were just about to tie up the game, probably have the momentum, and then about seven minutes later, they scored two more goals, and the game is over. It didn't feel like a 3-0 game out there, but sometimes that's what you get in soccer."
Â
The Bears scored one goal in the first half, as Aryanna Jimison scored from outside the 18-foot box to take a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute of the match.Â
Â
Kansas had multiple opportunities in the second half to tie the game, including a Livvy Moore shot off the cross bar, but could not find the net. Baylor then took over and scored two goals in eight minutes to put the game out of reach for the Jayhawks. Callie Conrad and Theresa McCullough scored the goals for Baylor.
Â
The Jayhawks outshot the Bears 19-11, including 10-3 in the first half. Kansas held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Â
Baylor recorded its sixth shutout of the season to improve to 6-1-2 on the season and 1-1-0 in conference play, while Kansas dropped to 7-1-2 and 1-1-0 in league play.
