LAWRENCE, Kan. – Two early goals from Norah Jacomen and Caroline Castans gave Kansas a lead it wouldn't relinquish on Thursday night, as the Jayhawks charged to a 3-0 victory over the Kansas City Roos at Rock Chalk Park. Jocelyn Herrema joined the scoring in the 85th minute to cap off the win.

Kansas held the Roos to zero shots, a single-game program record for least amount of shots allowed in a match.

"It's always great getting to play a local rival school," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "It's the first time we've played Kansas City since I've been here, and I really appreciate them coming to Rock Chalk Park. I think it's extra special with their head coach being a KU soccer alum, their assistant coach being a KU soccer alum, and one of their other assistants was an assistant coach here. They have a lot of ties to KU, and there's a great mutual respect amongst the programs."

Lie continued, "I thought our team today did a good job of controlling the game. I think we played pretty well as it relates to the coaching points we usually make, spacing, identity. It wasn't as open and transitional as some games are, so we had to try to create our own energy. I think this team still needs to score more goals for the amount of chances that we create, so good job in sort of playing downhill most of the night, and did a good job getting into dangerous spaces. I think we have to be a lot more clinical with those chances because they're going to be much more limited as we close out non-conference play and go into Big 12 play. They've earned a very well-earned rest."

Kansas dominated possession for much of the early going, tabbing a seventh-minute corner to pose the first scoring threat of the match. After nine minutes of control, Jillian Gregorski logged the Jayhawks first shot of the match on a low liner that was corralled by Kansas City goalkeeper Anika Patton.

After 13 minutes of battling, Kansas finally broke through when a London De Fini free kick was deflected by Patton into the path of Jacomen, who pounced on the loose ball and slotted it into the bottom left corner from inside the six-yard box.

Less than one minute later, Castans added a quick goal by slicing through the Kansas City back line and chipping a shot over the head of Patton, doubling the Jayhawk lead.

Kansas continued to control possession throughout the first half, nearly adding a third goal in the 27th minute when Hannah Palmer's shot missed just right of the net. In total, the Jayhawks posted 13 total shots in the first half and held the Roos without a single shot.

Kansas had a goal taken back in the 33rd minute after Herrema was ruled offside on a ball that ricocheted away from Patton. It would be the last big chance of the first half for the Jayhawks, who entered the dressing room with a 2-0 lead at the break.

Out of the half, Kansas quickly put pressure on the Roos with a pair of corner kicks in the first nine minutes. Despite neither coming to fruition, the Jayhawks recorded four shots in the first 15 minutes of the half.

Much of the second half was spent with Kansas controlling the pace and possession while searching for a third, while the Kansas City defense attempted to prevent any further damage. The Jayhawks would continue attacking, adding back-to-back corner kicks in the 70th minute, but would be held at bay by a staunch Roo defense.

With only five minutes to go, Herrema tacked on a third goal by way of a solo run into the box, sneaking a shot just past the diving arms of Patton and into the bottom right corner.

Kansas played out the final five minutes following Herrema's score, wrapping up the 3-0 victory.
