LAWRENCE, Kan. – Trailing late in the second half, No. 17 Kansas scored two goals and saved a penalty kick to fuel a 2-1 comeback win over Tulsa on Sunday afternoon at Rock Chalk Park. Marit McLaughlin and Norah Jacomen each scored goals in the win.

"What a crazy match," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "This was a typical Sunday match where you know it's going to be a little sloppier or a little bit more disjointed. I told the team at halftime that they're (Tulsa) dealing with these same elements, this same heat, and they look fresher, faster, hungrier than us and that it isn't acceptable. In the second half, we really started to push the tempo and creating chances, and that we have to be more clinical with them. We can't mess around as much as we had."

Lie continued, "We conceded a penalty with eight minutes left or so, and Soph saved us. Their kid took a good shot and made Soph make a save and that ball could have easily deflected in. So, Soph saved us. And then great job to the team. Livvy played a beautiful ball into space and Norah finished it. This was the end of a brutal five game stretch. We wanted to challenge this group and put them through the ringer and hopefully we will be even better for it in the future, but we really needed this one and great job to the team for finding a way."

The Jayhawks controlled possession for the first stretch of the game, peppering the Golden Hurricane defense with six shots in the first 30 minutes, but being unable to break through the defense. Tulsa turned the pressure around on Kansas in the 33rd minute when it found a fastbreak opportunity and Addison Castleberry turned an errant kick into a pass across the face of goal where Aniya Facen blasted home the first goal of the game, giving Tulsa a 1-0 lead.

Kansas continued to turn up the heat, recording six more shots in the following ten minutes, but still being unable to get any past Golden Hurricane keeper Maddy Nigey who recorded seven saves in the period.

The Jayhawks held a 12-2 shot advantage in the first half, while taking five corner kicks.

The Jayhawks kept the pressure on to begin the second half, recording ten shots in the first 15 minutes before Tulsa finally recorded their third shot of the game. Despite Kansas putting the pressure on, Tulsa earned a corner kick in the 63rd minute. Tulsa's Krysten Kizer crossed the ball in from the far corner, with it destined for the back of the net, but Sophie Dawe made a jumping punch save to keep the deficit at one.

In the 67th minute, Lydia Viets played a ball forward to Jocelyn Herrema who slotted it between a pair of defenders to Marit McLaughlin who drove it into the back of the net and evened the match.

With the game back even, the Jayhawks kept on the attack, winning corner kick after corner kick but being unable to find their second goal. In the 83rd minute, Tulsa found another breakaway and was brought down in the box to win a penalty kick. With a chance to put Tulsa ahead late, Kizer put a shot hard down the middle with the ball destined for the back of the net, but Dawe cleared the hard attempt with her legs, keeping the game knotted at 1-1.

The Jayhawks took the momentum from the saved penalty and used it on a counter push. Livvy Moore played a ball into space and found the head of Norah Jacomen who bounced it off the crossbar and into the net to put Kansas up 2-1 just 66 seconds following Dawe's save. Kansas was able to play out the rest of the match to defeat the Golden Hurricane 2-1.

Kansas recorded 36 shots, which ties a program record, with the first time coming on Aug. 26, 2005 against Michigan.
