
Kansas Battles but Falls to Texas Tech 4-1

WACO, Texas - Kansas fought to a 4-1 defeat to No. 1 seeded Texas Tech in the Big 12 Conference Championship Quarterfinals at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas on Friday.
No. 39 Kansas falls to 14-11 overall, while No. 15 Texas Tech improves to 20-2 this season. The Jayhawks will await its destination for the 2025 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship, which begins on May 2.
Kansas kept the doubles matches close, but ultimately dropped the doubles point to Texas Tech. On court one, No. 34 Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse van Vuuren won their sixth-straight match by defeating No. 7 Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova 6-4. The win marked the Kansas duo's top ranked win of the season.
Texas Tech won the matches on courts two and three to clinch the doubles point. On court two, Texas Tech's Kate Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy defeated Kansas' Jasmine Adams and Yerkezhan Arystanbekova 7-5. On court three, Adreea Lila and Jermine Sherif won a close 7-5 match over Kyoka Kubo and Anna Putilina.
Kansas battled hard in singles action but couldn't find a way to win as Texas Tech took three matches to clinch the win over the Jayhawks. Kansas picked up one win on court three, as van Vuuren defeated Hlahola in two sets, 6-4, 6-2.
The Red Raiders took three matches on courts four, five, and six to win the match. Court five finished up first, as Meriem Ben Ezzedine fell to Murphy 2-6, 1-6. On court four, Arystanbekova lost to Lila in two sets, 3-6, 4-6. Texas Tech won the match on court six, as Sherif defeated Kansas' Putilina in a close 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 match.
Kansas came close to taking more singles points, as the Jayhawks were leading on courts one and two before the matches went unfinished. On court one, No. 116 Mulville was leading Sayfetdinova 7-6(5), 1-6, 5-3 before the match went unfinished. On court two, Kansas' Kubo battled against Texas Tech's No. 96 Dmitrichenko in a close 7-5, 6(4)-7, 2-3 match before it went unfinished.
