ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 23 Kansas baseball will take its six-game winning streak on the road to play a three-game series against UCF this weekend, beginning on Friday at 5 p.m. CT. The Jayhawks went 6-0 on their recent homestand against St. Thomas, Oklahoma State and South Dakota State.
Â
"Every weekend in the Big 12 is a challenge and the next three games against UCF will be no different," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said. "We have done a pretty good job of keeping it simple. We will need to continue that as we move forward."
Â
Kansas (24-6, 6-3 Big 12) has matched its best 30-game start in program history. The other occasion was in 1993, the only year Kansas has made it to the College World Series. The Jayhawks 6-3 start to Big 12 play is the best in school history. The strong start to the season has Kansas ranked No. 23 by Baseball America this week.
Â
The Jayhawks are leading the Big 12 in multiple offensive categories, including walks (second nationally), home runs (sixth nationally), runs (tied for seventh nationally), slugging percentage (10th nationally), runs per game (tied for 10th nationally), hits (tied for 11th nationally), on-base percentage (13th nationally) and total bases (592). Kansas has hit at least two home runs in six of the last eight games and drawn double-digit walks in three of the last five games.
Â
UCF (18-10, 3-6 Big 12) earned a 2-0 win against Stetson earlier this week in a lightning shortened game. The Golden Knights began conference play this season with a series win at BYU before dropping a series against Houston and getting swept at Cincinnati last weekend. UCF currently leads the Big 12 in hitting and pitching with a .327 batting average and a 3.56 ERA.
