"We're excited to be back home at Hoglund again on Tuesday," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said. "It was a good weekend for us down in Florida and we will look to keep it rolling this week."
Â
Following a series sweep at UCF, Kansas sits in sole possession of first place in the Big 12 standings for the first time since March 22, 2009. The Jayhawks have a 27-6 overall record and a 9-3 mark in Big 12 play this season. In 135 years of baseball at Kansas, the 27-6 mark is the best record through the first 33 games in program history and the 9-3 start to conference play is the best start to a Big 12 season in school history.
Â
The Jayhawks enter the week riding a season-long nine-game winning streak. The nine-game winning streak is the longest in Fitzgerald's tenure. The last time Kansas won nine consecutive games was Feb. 24-March 12, 2019.
Â
Kansas is ranked No. 19 this week by Baseball America. The Jayhawks are also ranked No. 22 by D1Baseball, USA Today and NCBWA, along with No. 24 by Perfect Game. When Kansas was ranked No. 22 by the NCBWA on March 17, it was the first ranking for KU since the 2014 season.
Â
KU leads the Big 12 and is fourth in the nation with 73 home runs this season. Kansas has hit a home run in 11 consecutive games, with multiple home runs in each of the last seven contests. The Jayhawks also lead the conference in walks (third nationally), hits (tied for sixth nationally), runs (tied for seventh nationally), slugging percentage (eighth nationally), runs per game (11th nationally), on-base percentage (15th nationally) and total bases.
Â
Nebraska (14-18) enters this week's game coming off back-to-back weekend series wins against Oregon State and Rutgers. The Cornhuskers are hitting .270 as a team this season and have a 5.83 ERA as a pitching staff. Ryan Harrahill is slated to get the start for Nebraska and he has posted a 3.24 ERA in 8.1 innings across seven appearances this season.
