5/3/2025 7:13:00 PM | Baseball
Osoria finished with three hits and a career-high six RBIs, but Cincinnati's Kerrington Cross hit three home runs and had 10 RBIs to lead the Bearcats to the win. Every Kansas starter had at least one hit in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Cincinnati (26-20, 11-11 Big 12) took the lead in the first inning on a solo homer by Cross.
• Kansas (36-12, 15-8 Big 12) responded in the bottom of the first with three runs of its own. Osoria hit a two-out, two-run double to put the Jayhawks ahead. Osoria came in to score after advancing to third on a passed ball and coming home on a throwing error by the catcher. The Jayhawks led 3-1 after the first.
• KU added another run in the second inning on an RBI single up the middle by Derek Cerda. That made it a 4-1 Kansas lead.
• The Jayhawks stretched it to a 5-1 advantage with an RBI double by Brady Ballinger into the gap in left-center field.
• The Bearcats began to come back in the fifth inning. Landyn Vidourek hit a solo homer on the first pitch of the inning to make it 5-2.
• Cincinnati went on to tie up the game at 5-5 with three runs in the sixth. Dawson Hokuf and Cross each had RBI singles and Lauden Brooks scored from third base on a failed pickoff attempt at first base.
• The Bearcats took the lead with four runs in the seventh inning. Quinton Coats hit a solo homer on the first pitch of the inning to grab the lead. With two outs, Cross hit a two-run single to center field and Jack Natili brought home another run on an RBI single up the middle. Cincinnati led 9-5 at the seventh inning stretch.
• Kansas answered back with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Brady Counsell hit an RBI single and Osoria had a sacrifice fly to bring the game within two runs. The Jayhawks loaded the bases with two outs and were able to bring in two more runs with Ian Francis getting hit by a pitch and Tommy Barth scoring on a wild pitch. That tied the game at 9-9.
• The Bearcats did not blink and retook the lead with a five-run eighth inning. Charlie Niehaus dropped down a squeeze bunt for the first run and Vidourek hit a sacrifice fly for the second run. With two runners on, Cross came up and hit his second home run of the game, this one being a three-run shot. The five runs made it a 14-9 Cincinnati lead.
• Kansas continued to battle and got two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Michael Brooks hit an RBI single and Barth delivered a sacrifice fly to bring the game to 14-11.
• KU kept fighting into the ninth inning and got two runners on base to send the tying run to the plate. With two outs, Osoria stepped up and lined a three-run home run out to left field to tie the game at 14-14. Kansas got the go-ahead runner on base but was unable to score another run and the game went to extra innings.
• Cincinnati took back the lead in the 10th inning with two home runs. Brooks hit a solo homer and Cross hit a three-run blast, his third home run of the day. That made it an 18-14 game.
• The Jayhawks were unable to score in the bottom of the 10th.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"Ugly baseball for a good chunk of the day mixed in with some really clutch and timely stuff on both sides. Obviously, it's two really good offenses so you can point the finger to that, but it's also the bullpens, it looked like a football score. Towards the end you got combined eight runs in the seventh, combined seven in the eighth, put up three in the ninth and then they put up four in the 10th. Neither bullpen held but two really competitive teams that got after it and it's part of a three-game series." – Head Coach Dan Fitzgerald
