OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Kansas softball team is set to travel to Oklahoma City to compete in the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship, beginning Wednesday, May 7 at OGE Energy Field at Devon Park. Kansas enters the tournament as the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 Baylor in the opening round.
"This is the time of the year that anything can happen. You have to leave everything on the field in order to keep advancing," said head coach
Jennifer McFalls. "Most importantly we just have to keep believing that we can win."
Texas Tech (42-12) secured the top overall seed after finishing the conference season with a 20-4 record. Rounding out the seeding are: No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Iowa State, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 6 BYU, No. 7 UCF, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 Kansas, No. 10 Utah, and No. 11 Houston.
The Jayhawks (22-27) are coming off a competitive season. They earned themselves ten wins before Kansas faced a challenging Big 12 slate, finishing with a 6-18 record. Despite some close losses and tough series against ranked opponents, the Jayhawks showed flashes of their potential, earning series wins against Arizona State, Iowa State, UCF, and Oklahoma State. The team looks to use its experience and depth to make a run in the tournament.
In the circle, senior
Katie Brooks has led the Kansas pitching staff with a team-high 15 starts, 85.1 innings pitched, and eight wins. She holds a 4.59 ERA and has recorded 44 strikeouts. Senior
Olivia Bruno has been the most efficient arm in the rotation, leading the team in ERA (2.88), complete games (5), and strikeouts (47) across 18 appearances and 73.0 innings.
The rest of the pitching staff includes junior
Lizzy Ludwig and freshmen
Kaelee Washington and
Kennedy Diggs. Ludwig has appeared in 18 games and owns a 4.42 ERA with three complete games. Washington leads the team in appearances (24) and holds a 4.24 ERA with 40 strikeouts.
At the plate, Kansas features three players hitting over .300: junior
Presley Limbaugh (.367), senior
Hailey Cripe (.329), and junior
Olivia Bruno (.326). Limbaugh leads the team in hits (58), doubles (10), triples (2), and runs scored (36), while also tallying 13 RBIs. Cripe has recorded 46 hits and 10 home runs. Bruno leads the team in RBIs (40) and home runs (12), while adding 44 hits and 24 runs. Junior
Aynslee Linduff has also contributed consistently, batting second in the order and totaling 46 hits and 18 RBIs.
