LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas soccer freshman
Mary Sola received her first career conference honor on Wednesday as she was chosen as the Big 12 Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced.
Sola helped the Jayhawks stay unbeaten with a 1-0-1 record on the week, including a 1-1 draw against No. 2 Florida State on Aug. 28. Sola scored KU's lone goal against the Seminoles in the draw, recording the game-tying goal in the 26th minute. The goal was also the first career goal for Sola, who logged 83 minutes as a midfielder across both games, and has played a total of 218 minutes this season.
A native of Homer Glen, Illinois, Sola becomes the 25th Jayhawk in program history to be awarded Big 12 Freshman of the Week. The last time Kansas had a player receive the honor was goalkeeper Sophie Dawe on Oct. 28, 2024.
No. 22 Kansas (4-0-2) travels to New Haven, Connecticut, to face Yale on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. CT.
