LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 18 Kansas volleyball enters its second week of Big 12 play with back-to-back road matchups in Texas. The Jayhawks (10-6, 1-1 Big 12) will face No. 12 TCU (11-3, 1-1) on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m. CT in Fort Worth before heading to Waco for a Friday night showdown with No. 15 Baylor (8-3, 3-0) at 7 p.m. CT. Both matches will stream on ESPN+.
"TCU and Baylor are playing at a very high level," Kansas head coach
Matt Ulmer said. "It's going to take our best effort to have a successful week, and our team is excited to compete against elite competition. We know these matches will push us and give us a chance to continue building momentum in Big 12 play."
Kansas is coming off its home-opening weekend in Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena, where the Jayhawks split a pair of matches against their Arizona Big 12 opponents. After falling in a five-set battle to No. 8 Arizona State on Friday, KU bounced back with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Arizona on Sunday to give head coach
Matt Ulmer his first home and conference victory of the season. The sweep was Kansas' seventh of the year, already marking half of the 14 sweeps the Jayhawks recorded in 2024.
The Jayhawks' success this season has been anchored at the net, where they rank No. 3 nationally and lead the Big 12 with 164.5 total blocks. Sophomore middle blocker
Reese Ptacek has been the defensive force at the front line, tallying 70 blocks to pace KU.
Offensively, Kansas has been just as sharp. The Jayhawks lead the Big 12 and rank fifth nationally with 819 total kills, spearheaded by freshman outside hitter
Jovana Zelenovic, who has posted 183 kills in her debut season. Transfer sophomore setter
Cristin Cline has orchestrated the attack, delivering 466 assists, more than half of KU's total, to guide an offense that also ranks fourth nationally in total assists (766).
From the service line, the Jayhawks have recorded 88 aces, ranking third in the Big 12. Sophomore
Grace Nelson leads the team with 16 aces, adding another weapon to KU's arsenal.
Defensively, Kansas continues to hold its own in the back row, leading the Big 12 and ranking No. 22 nationally in digs with 871. Opponents are hitting just .166 against the Jayhawks, a mark that sits fourth in the league and 34th nationally.
The road trip presents two strong challenges. Kansas leads the all-time series against TCU, 20-4, and swept the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth last season. Against Baylor, however, the Jayhawks trail 31-27 in the series, though they won the most recent meeting in straight sets last November.
