LAWRENCE, Kan — For the second time this season, Kansas freshman
Darryn Peterson has been named to the Big 12 Starting Five, a weekly honor selected by a media panel covering the league.
Peterson opened the week with a career-high 36 points in the 104-100 overtime win against TCU. The Canton, Ohio, native shot 8-of-18 from the field and 13-of-15 from the free-throw line, including three straight makes with 1.4 seconds remaining that sent the game into overtime. At West Virginia, Peterson recorded his third consecutive 20-point effort, scoring 23 points. He also posted a season-high six rebounds in both contests. At West Virginia, Peterson went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and has now made his last 16 free throws.
Peterson previously earned Big 12 Starting Five honor on Nov. 10, while sophomore
Flory Bidunga has earned the honor twice this season (Nov. 17 and Dec. 1). Senior
Melvin Council Jr. was named Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week on Dec. 16, which also placed him on the Big 12 Starting Five.
