Kansas heads to Arizona with a record of 11-7 (1-5 Big 12) following an 85-76 defeat against Oklahoma State on Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. Freshman forward
Jaliya Davis scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Jayhawks, while junior guard
S'Mya Nichols added 23 points, six assists and five rebounds.
In the game, Nichols became KU's all-time leader in free throws made. She was 6-for-7 from the line, giving her 508 career free throws made, which surpassed the previous record of 505 set by legendary Jayhawk Lynette Woodard from 1978-81.
Davis has been named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week in back-to-back weeks, becoming the first player in the conference to earn consecutive awards. Davis has now scored at least 20 points in five straight games and she's the Big 12's No. 2 leading scorer in league play with 23.6 points per game.
Nichols recorded her ninth 20-point game of the season and 34th of her career against OSU. She is now alone in second place for the most games of scoring 20+ points in program history, trailing only Woodard with 47. Nichols finished 6-of-7 from the free throw line to maintain her lead nationally in both free throws made (124) and attempted (149) this season.
Sophomore forward
Regan Williams made her return to the lineup vs. Oklahoma State. Williams had two points, an assist and a steal in 13 minutes of action in her first game back after missing the previous seven games due to injury. Williams is KU's No. 3 leading scorer, averaging 9.9 points per game, and ranks second on the team with 6.0 rebounds per game.
Senior forward
Lilly Meister had six points, five rebounds and three assists in the OSU game after recording her second double-double as a Jayhawk with 11 points and 10 rebounds at Baylor on Jan. 11. Meister ranks fourth on the team in scoring at 9.6 points per game and leads the Jayhawks with 7.2 rebounds per game.
Senior guard
Elle Evans continues to lead the nation in three-point accuracy, shooting 51.3 percent (41-80) from long range. She's one of two players in the country hitting better than 50 percent from three-point range for the year.
Arizona State is 16-2 on the year and 3-2 in Big 12 play following a 77-46 loss at No. 13 TCU on Jan. 11. The Sun Devils started the season 15-0, the best start in program history, before suffering a 71-62 defeat at BYU on Jan. 3. ASU enters the matchup having dropped two of its past three games.
Saturday's game will be KU's second visit to Tempe, first since Dec. 5, 2001, when the Sun Devils claimed a 73-52 win over the Jayhawks. The all-time series between Kansas and Arizona State is tied at 2-2, with KU winning 75-52 over ASU last season in Lawrence during the Sun Devils first season in the Big 12.
Kansas is 3-2 in true road games this season, including a 1-2 mark in conference road games. The Jayhawks won at UCF, 83-68, on Jan. 4, for their first conference win of the season.
