LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawks will play on national television for the second straight game as KU travels to Fort Worth, Texas, to face No. 12 TCU on Thursday, Jan. 29.
Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. CT on ESPN, with Eric Frede (play-by-play) and Christy Thomaskutty (analyst) on the call. Fans can also listen on the Jayhawk Radio Network from Learfield, with Steven Davis calling the action.
Kansas has won its last two games to improve to 13-8 (3-6 Big 12) on the year. The Jayhawks most recently defeated Kansas State 83-61 on Jan. 25, for the program's first win over KSU by more than 20 points since 1999. KU previously won 80-69 at Arizona on Jan. 20 to snap a four-game slide.
Freshman forward
Jaliya Davis led the Jayhawks with 22 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots against Kansas State. It was the seventh time Davis has scored at least 20 points in the past eight games.
Davis was again named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Monday, becoming only the fifth player in conference history to receive the honor in four consecutive weeks. She averaged 23.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for the week, while shooting 65.4 percent (17-26) from the field and 72.2 percent (13-18) from the stripe.
Kansas had four players reach double figures in scoring against Kansas State, marking the second time the Jayhawks have accomplished the feat in Big 12 play. Davis led the Jayhawks with 22 points, while
Elle Evans added 14, and
Lilly Meister and
Regan Williams had 12 apiece.
Evans hit all four of her three-pointers in the KSU game, marking the second time this season that she has made multiple threes in a game without a miss. Evans maintains the national lead in three-point shooting, hitting 51.1 percent (48-94) from long range for the season.
Meister scored 12 points with four rebounds against Kansas State for her ninth game scoring in double figures this season. She is fifth on the team in scoring at 9.3 points per game, while leading the Jayhawks with 6.7 rebounds per contest.
Williams reached double figures in scoring for the second time in four games since returning from injury, improving her average to 9.9 points per game for the year.
Junior guard
S'Mya Nichols continues to lead the nation in both free throws made (138) and attempted (166), while ranking fourth in the Big 12 averaging 17.6 points per game for the year. Nichols is KU's all-time leader with 522 free throws made in her career.
TCU is 19-2 on the year and tied atop the Big 12 standings at 7-1 in league play. Ranked No. 12 in the latest Associated Press Top 25, the Horned Frogs have won their last five conference games but suffered a 71-69 defeat against then-No. 12 Ohio State on Jan. 19. TCU is No. 3 in the Big 12 in scoring (80.9 ppg) and leads the conference in scoring defense (53.2 ppg). Leading the way for TCU is guard Olivia Miles, who ranks third in the league in scoring (19.1 ppg) and leads the nation with four triple doubles this season.
TCU is the third ranked opponent that Kansas has faced during Big 12 Conference play. The Jayhawks previously fell to No. 10 Iowa State, 79-76, on Dec. 21 in Ames, and 79-64 at No. 16 Baylor on Jan. 11. Kansas heads to Fort Worth in search of its first win over a ranked opponent since an 83-74 victory over No. 20 Oklahoma State on March 2, 2024.
