SALT LAKE CITY -Â Kansas men's golf concluded Big 12 Match Play on Wednesday with a tie fifth place.Â
The Jayhawks finished tied for first in Pool D and tied for second overall at the end of pool play, wrapping up with a 2-0-1 record and even with West Virginia, who Kansas tied with in its' second match. The Jayhawks complimented the tie with a pair of wins against Baylor and TCU.Â
"Match play is so much fun to coach and the guys really enjoy the team competition,"Â Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. "We played solid, but got beat in a tie breaker to make it to the championship bracket. The good news is we won three matches and tied one. The golf course is a great match play course and the greens were really tricky."
Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Arizona State joined West Virginia atop their pools, before the Mountaineers and Cowboys tied in bracket play while the Sun Devils beat the Red Raiders.Â
Kansas defeated Arizona in bracket play 3.5-1.5, with Arthur Carlier, Nicolas Vidal-Reig and Max Jelinek taking wins for the Jayhawks.Â
"Nico won all of his matches, and Arthur and Will either won or tied all their opponents,"Â Bermel added. "The weather was a little suspect this week, but we battled and had a solid showing."
