Jayhawks Complete Day One of Big 12 Championship With Seasonal-Best Relay Times

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kansas swim and dive finished the first day of the Big 12 Championship at the Greensboro Aquatic Center with two season-best relay times and 148 points, placing sixth in the team standings.
Our start was solid, head coach Clark Campbell said. Both relays achieved new seasonal-best times and the team diving was able to finish strong. We'll keep increasing our momentum on day two.
Kansas opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of senior Lydia Lafferty, junior Ryan Johnston, sophomore Anna Gearhart and freshman Sarah Blake posted a time of 1:39.08.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Jayhawks placed fifth with a time of 7:14.45 from sophomore Gabi Dyer, freshman Ivy Solt, junior Bradie Ward and senior Hailey Farrell.
On the boards, junior Shiyun Lai, senior Lize Lukas van Leeuwen and freshman Kelly Estebo combined for 243.10 points to finish seventh in the team diving event.
Kansas returns to action Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT for preliminary events. Finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. Diving preliminaries begin at 11:30 a.m. CT each day, followed by finals in conjunction with swimming events.
