Mason Cook started the game and tossed four innings. He allowed two runs and struck out four batters. Kansas used six arms out of the bullpen, including Boede Rahe, Toby Scheidt and Caleb Deer, who all had scoreless relief outings. Riane Ritter received the win and Deer picked up his second save of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After the first two innings were scoreless, Minnesota got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the third inning. The Golden Gophers hit back-to-back solo home runs, with Weber Neels hitting the first and Charlie Sutherland getting the second. That gave Minnesota a 2-0 advantage through three innings.
• Kansas (6-2) responded by scoring runs in each of the next four innings.
• In the fourth , Schlotterback hit a 2-out RBI single to cut the deficit in half and make it a 2-1 game.
• The Jayhawks evened the game in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI single from Josh Dykhoff.
• Kansas took the lead in the sixth. A double and single to start the inning set up first and third with no outs. Schlotterback came up to the plate and crushed a three-run blast to left-center field. The homer gave the Jayhawks a 5-2 lead.
• Minnesota (5-2) got a run back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single to bring the score to 5-3.
• The top of the seventh started with back-to-back walks for the Jayhawks. Mungarrieta stepped to the plate next and belted a three-run shot to stretch the score to 8-3.
• The Golden Gophers continued to fight as Neels hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh for his second long ball of the day. That cut the Jayhawks lead to 8-6.
• Minnesota made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff homer by Easton Richter to make it an 8-7 game. The next batter hit a double, but Kansas was able to get the next three hitters out and leave the runner stranded on second base to end the game.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"Right after the game I talked to the guys about how proud I was of how we fought. Go down 2-0, tie it up 2-2, go up 5-2, give up a run and it's 5-3, score three, they score three…it was just back and forth and some really high-level baseball. There were a bunch of pitching changes and matchups. If you're a baseball fan, that's a fun one to watch for the matchups. What I liked most was we responded each time and guys picked other guys up. We had some timely hits and we did a really nice job. Thirteen hits is a lot of hits and you throw in seven walks. A lot of guys got on base and had a really good approach at the plate and the pitchers came through huge in this one." – Dan Fitzgerald
Â
"I've just been keeping my head down and working. I knew it was going to come eventually. Their pitcher was throwing cut pitches, so I was ready for it. He left one up and I was able to get ahold of it. It was a great team win and we had great fight. We showed a lot of fight out there against a good team and it sets us up for a good weekend." – Dylan Schlotterback
Â
"I was just trying to hit the ball to the middle of the field hard. That's what I've been working on with the coaches. Coach Fitz gave me a hit the ball hard sign and that's what I did. I'm glad the ball went out and I'm really happy with the result for the team." – Augusto Mungarrieta
Â
• Kansas won its fourth straight game and improved to 6-2 on the season.
• The Kansas pitching staff recorded 10 strikeouts marking the third double-digit strikeout game of the season for Kansas.
• Kansas had 13 hits to match a season high. The Jayhawks have double-digit hits in four games this season.
• Schlotterback hit his first home run as a Jayhawk. He finished 3-for-3 with a season-high four RBIs and two walks.
• Mungarrieta blasted his second home run of the season.
• Ritter received his first win of the year.
• Deer earned his second save of the season.
• Brady Ballinger extended his hitting streak to eight games.
• Dykhoff has now hit safely in each of the last seven games.
