LUBBOCK, Texas – Kansas baseball will start conference play this weekend with a series at Texas Tech. The Big 12 season is 30 league games against 10 different schools. Each team will not face three schools in conference play this year.
Â
"We've got a great chance to restart our season here with the start of conference play," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said. "This weekend is a series against a really good Texas Tech team. From top to bottom, every weekend in the Big 12 is going to be awesome and really good baseball." Â
Â
Kansas has begun the season with a 10-6 overall record, with seven of those victories coming on the road. The seven road wins are tied for the second most in the country.
Â
The Jayhawks have won their opening conference series in back-to-back seasons. Doing so in 2024 and 2025 marked the first time it has happened in consecutive years since 2013 and 2014. Kansas has also won its conference opener in both 2024 and 2025.

Graduate
Jordan Bach has led the way on offense for the Jayhawks. Bach leads the team in batting average (.373), on-base percentage (.531), slugging percentage (.661), home runs (4), runs scored (21), hits (22), walks (19), stolen bases (5), total bases (39), multi-run games (8) and multi-hit games (7).
Â
Texas Tech (11-5) will be finishing a program record 15-game homestand with the series this weekend. The Red Raiders have gone 10-2 through the first 12 games of the homestand. That includes a midweek series split against ranked UTSA. Texas Tech is pounding the ball offensively with a .379 batting average as a team and a .679 slugging percentage through its first 16 games.

SERIES HISTORY
Kansas and Texas Tech have a series that dates back to 1981. The Red Raiders have a 52-32 advantage in the all-time series. However, Kansas has won the last three games after recording a series sweep in Lawrence during the 2024 season. The last series sweep by Kansas prior to that was the 2014 season.
Â
All three wins that weekend were in comeback fashion. On Friday night, Kansas overcame hitting into an NCAA-record-tying seven double plays to win 4-3 in walk-off fashion. It was the fifth time it happened in NCAA history and Kansas is the only team to ever win the game.

UP NEXT
