ATLANTA, Ga. –Kansas junior Shiyun Lai punched her ticket to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center by scoring a duo of silver medals on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in College Station, Texas. This will mark Lai's third consecutive qualification for the NCAA Championships.
"We are so thrilled Shiyun will represent our program this week at the NCAA Championship," said head coach Clark Campbell. "Her and Coach Allen have pointed to this moment all year. She's ready to go."
Lai posted scores of 647.15 and 706.80 on the 1-meter and 3-meter dive, respectively at zones. Additionally, Lai is a 3-time Big 12 Diver of the Week this season, has landed first in diving events eleven times, and set a new school record in the platform diving event at the 2026 Big 12 Championship.
At last year's NCAA Championships, Lai received All-America honors after placing sixth and seventh on the 3-meter and 1-meter dives, respectively.
The 1-meter diving event will be held on Thursday, Mar. 19, with preliminaries beginning at 12:15 a.m. CT and finals to follow at 6:25 p.m. CT. The following day, the 3-meter dive will follow the same times on Friday, Mar. 20. Lai will compete in both events.
