CINCINNATI – Kansas baseball is set for its third conference series of the season this weekend at Cincinnati. Friday's start time has been pushed up one hour to 4 p.m. CT.
Â
Kansas (16-9, 4-2 Big 12) has won six of its last seven games and averaged 10.3 runs per game over that stretch. The Jayhawks posted a 5-1 record on their recent season-long six-game homestand. KU came from behind to win in four of those five contests. This season, 11 of the 16 victories for the Jayhawks have been in comeback fashion. Kansas has four walk offs in 10 opportunities.
Â
Last weekend, Kansas recorded a series sweep of Houston. It was the first conference sweep of the season and the second sweep of the year. Last season, Kansas established a new school record with five Big 12 series sweeps. The Jayhawks are tied for third place in the conference heading into the third weekend of Big 12 play.
Â
In the series against Houston, Kansas hit a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in each of the three games. The Jayhawks have hit 22 home runs in the last nine games after only hitting 16 homers in the first 16 games. The power surge has led to a more dangerous Kansas lineup.
Â
Another sign of the Kansas offense starting to hit more consistently is that in seven of the last eight contests, the Kansas offense has at least 10 hits. The Jayhawks had only five double-digit hit efforts in the first 17 games of the season.
Â
Cincinnati (19-8, 3-3 Big 12) is ranked No. 25 in the Baseball America poll this week. The Bearcats took two out of three games in their series last week against Utah. However, they did drop their midweek contest at Xavier. Quinton Coats headlines the Cincinnati lineup as he leads the nation with 19 home runs this season. He is only five homers shy of breaking the school record.
