LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 39 Kansas women's tennis will close out the regular season by facing Kansas State in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown Sunday at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. CT.
Kansas comes into the match with a 12-9 record and 8-4 mark in Big 12 play after defeating both West Virginia and Cincinnati 4-0 on April 3 and 5. The Jayhawks were granted a conference win by virtue of Oklahoma State forfeiting its match due to injuries. Kansas State currently sits at 8-12 on the season including a 3-9 conference mark after defeating Iowa State 4-0 on Friday.
The Jayhawks remained in this week's team rankings, sitting at No. 39. Kansas has two players ranked in doubles and singles, with Kyoka Kubo ranked at No. 69 in singles with an 11-6 record this season. The 11 singles wins lead the team. Kubo joins Heike Janse van Vuuren in the doubles rankings, as they are ranked No. 62. The pair is 4-1 on the season.Â
Van Vuuren is currently 10-7 in singles play. Meg McCarty is 10-4 in doubles play with her partner van Vuuren, and is currently 8-5 in singles action this season. Kubo has joined Meriem Ben Ezzedine in doubles play and has played to an 8-3 record as a pair.
