IRVING, Texas – Kansas baseball redshirt junior
Boede Rahe was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The Big 12 weekly honors are the first of his career.
Â
Rahe was crucial for Kansas in its perfect 4-0 week against ranked opponents that included a win at No. 19 Nebraska and a three-game series sweep of No. 12 UCF. He was on mound to finish three of the four wins against ranked competition, earning a win and two saves.
Â
The Marion, Iowa, native threw seven innings and did not allow an earned run last week. Rahe posted a 0.57 WHIP and opponents had only a .083 batting average against him.
Â
On Tuesday at No. 19 Nebraska, Rahe pitched three scoreless innings and did not allow a baserunner to go along with four strikeouts for his first save of the week. He then received the win in Friday's series opener versus No. 12 UCF by not allowing an earned run in three innings. On Saturday, Rahe threw a scoreless ninth inning in game two of the doubleheader to record his second save of the week and secure a series sweep.
Â
Rahe is only the second Kansas player in program history to earn Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and Big 12 Newcomer of Week honors in the same week. Reese Dutton won both awards on March 11, 2024.
Â
Rahe is the 22nd Kansas player ever to win Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and the 21st Jayhawk in program history to win Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Rahe joins
Tyson LeBlanc and
Mathis Nayral as a Big 12 weekly award winner this season.
Â
No. 18 Kansas (26-10, 12-3 Big 12) received its first Top 25 ranking of the season this week. The Jayhawks have won a season-best 10 consecutive games. Kansas is now 12-3 in conference play, which is the best Big 12 start in program history. KU will host Wichita State on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. CT at Hoglund Ballpark.
