Kansas (29–13, 10-5 Big 12) is looking to get back on track after a 4-2 midweek loss to Missouri. The Kansas offense continues to rank at the top of the Big 12 as the Jayhawks lead the conference in doubles, and are in the top three in batting average, runs scored, hits, slugging percentage, RBIs, home runs, triples and total bases. Kansas goes into the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record in conference series, and have won six-straight series overall.
"These (midweek games) are the kind of games throughout the year that make us better," Kansas head coach Jennifer McFalls said following the Missouri contest. "We have to learn and grow from this. We can't be satisfied or leave here hanging our heads. We're too good of a team, and we have a huge weekend ahead of us. I think the loss helps us get prepared mentally, and it's going to be a fight this weekend against UCF."
In the game against Missouri, the Tigers scored a run in each of the first two innings and held their 2-0 lead into the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Kansas was able to chase Missouri's starting pitcher out of the game as Aynslee Linduff and Presley Limbaugh both hit singles to start the inning off. With runners on second and third and two outs, Anna Soles roped a triple down the left field line to tie the game. In the top half of the seventh, Missouri was able to take the lead again with a two-run home run, and besides threatening by getting the tying run on base, Kansas could not pull through in the bottom of the seventh.Â
UCF (33-11-1, 10-7-1) will be the third-ranked matchup of the season for the Jayhawks, who currently sit at 2-2 against ranked opponents. Like Kansas, UCF is led by a high-powered offense with seven starters hitting over .300 on the season, and four starters boasting an OPS over 1.000. The Knights are led by junior infielder Sierra Humphreys, who leads the team in batting average (.394), hits (50) and RBIs (48).Â
