LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior Luke Honner has been named the Big 12 Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Thursday.Â
"This is a very deserving award for Luke," Kansas coach Jamie Bermel said. "He has been a solid player in the lineup for the past two years and he put together a great tournament in Indiana. It is nice to see all the hard work and dedication to his game has paid off."
This is the first year the Big 12 has changed to a Player of Week in the spring, opposed to Player of the Month as it has been awarded in previous seasons.Â
Honner is coming off a tie for second place at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational, after putting together rounds of 69-73-72 to finish at one-over par. Honner's runner-up finish is the highest of his career as a Jayhawk. Throughout the year, Honner has recorded four top 20 finishes and six rounds in the 60s.
Honner has been a pivotal part of Kansas's season this year, competing in all 11 events. He has helped lead the Jayhawks to eight top five finishes, five top three finishes, and one tournament win during his senior campaign.Â
Honner and the rest of his Kansas teammates are now set for postseason play, which begins on April 27-29 with the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas.
