LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas track and field was represented by senior
Anthony Meacham as the Big 12 Conference's third men's Athletes of the Week of the outdoor season, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Meacham competed in his first event of the outdoor season at LSU's Battle on the Bayou on Friday, winning the pole vault with a top national mark of 5.80 meters (19-0.25 ft.). The clearance was a personal best, making it three straight meets with a personal best. To close the indoor season, he won the Big 12 indoor pole vault title with a 5.65 meters clearance and then placed sixth nationally with a 5.70 meters vault, earning first team All-America honors.
The Big 12 Outdoor Athlete of the Week honors are the first of his career, while he has won two Big 12 Championships, bringing home the crown in the 2026 indoor and 2024 outdoor season, while also finishing third and fourth in 2024 and 2025. The 2026 First Team All-America honors were the first of his career.
Meacham's clearance at the Battle on the Bayou was the second highest in school history, behind Zach Bradford, but matched the same height that teammate
Ashton Barkdull cleared to win the 2026 Indoor National Championship. His clearance marked the first time in NCAA history that teammates have both cleared the 19 foot mark in pole vault, and made Meacham just the 21st collegiate athlete to ever clear it in the outdoor season.
Kansas track and field's multi event athletes will be in action at the Bryan Clay Invitational on May 9-10 in Azusa, Calif.
