Kansas improved to 38-15 overall this season and 21-7 in Big 12 play. The Jayhawks maintained their one-game lead atop the Big 12 standings with two games remaining.
Â
Josh Dykhoff had a multi-homer effort to bring his season total to 14 and Tyson LeBlanc hit his 18th home run of the season to lead off the game. The 18 homers for LeBlanc are tied for the third most in a season in school history.
Â
Dominic Voegele cruised through his first 4.2 innings before running into trouble in the fifth. Voegele was unable to get the final out of the fifth inning and ended the night with four runs allowed and four walks to go with six strikeouts. The six strikeouts moved Voegele into a tie for second in strikeouts in KU history with 269. Boede Rahe finished the game and pitched three scoreless innings with five strikeouts to slam the door and earn his eighth save of the season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• LeBlanc wasted no time and led off the game with a 465-foot home run.
• Kansas extended its lead with three runs in the top of the third inning. After LeBlanc drew a walk and moved to second base on a wild pitch, Tyson Owens brought him home with an RBI single. Dariel Osoria stepped to the plate a few batters later and hit a two-run triple to the left field corner. That gave Kansas a 4-0 lead midway through the third inning.
• The Jayhawks stretched their lead with Dykhoff's first homer of the game. A two-run blast gave Kansas a 6-0 lead.
• BYU (26-26, 13-15 Big 12) pieced together a two-out rally in the fifth inning. The Cougars pushed across four runs to bring the score to 6-4.
• Two more runs for BYU in the sixth inning tied the game at 6-6.
• KU responded in the top of the seventh as Dykhoff hit his second homer of the night with two outs to give Kansas a 7-6 advantage.
• Kansas added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth with two outs. Cade Baldridge hit an RBI single and Owens scored on a fielding error. That stretched the lead to 9-6.
• Rahe entered the game with a 7-6 lead and kept BYU scoreless for the final three innings.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"I thought our guys played really tough tonight against a really, really talented and well-coached BYU team. The key was getting out in front and scoring some runs. Dom hit a wall there in the fifth. He got those first two outs in the fifth and then they did a really good job of scrapping through some at-bats. I thought, obviously, it was enormous of Boede to come in and slam the door. It was a great win. Thought we played tough and really proud of these guys." – Head Coach Dan Fitzgerald
Â
"I was trying to be the table setter to start the game. Fitz and I talked before the game and I just wanted to have a long at-bat, see as many pitches as possible and give a good scouting report for the guys back in the dugout." – Tyson LeBlanc
Â
"I think the message has been the same all year. Don't change. Keep the same energy. Keep having fun playing this kid's game. It's a great game and we all love doing it together." – Josh Dykhoff
Â
"It was huge to be able to do a handshake line after the game again. Hopefully, this gets us going in the right direction leading into the postseason." – Tyson LeBlanc
