"They responded great," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said following the weekend. "We had a great practice on Tuesday. The guys were in great spirits, got a lot of work done and had great energy. You would have no idea whether we won or lost last weekend being at our practice."
Â
Kansas (37-15, 20-7 Big 12) is in first place in the Big 12 with a 20-7 conference record. The Jayhawks hold a one-game lead atop the Big 12 standings with three games remaining. Regardless of other team's results, KU can clinch at least a share of the title with two wins this week and win the title outright with three wins.
Â
The Jayhawks have matched their program record of 20 wins in conference play that was set in 2025. Kansas is the first Big 12 team with 20 conference wins in back-to-back seasons since Nebraska in 2000 and 2001. Prior to last weekend's series loss to West Virginia, Kansas won seven consecutive Big 12 series for the first time in program history.
Â
Entering the final weekend, KU has the most wins of any program in the Big 12. The 37 wins for Kansas in back-to-back seasons mark the first time doing so since 1993-94 and only the second time in school history. Eighteen of the 37 wins for Kansas this season have come on the road. The 18 road victories are tied for the fifth most in the country.
Â
This week, Kansas is ranked No. 14 in the Top 25 by D1Baseball, No. 16 by Baseball America and No. 17 by USA Today and the NCBWA. This is the fifth consecutive week Kansas has been ranked after not being in the Top 25 for the first eight weeks of the season.
Â
BYU (26-25, 13-14 Big 12) has won two of its last three games, including a 12-3 win on the road at Texas Tech last weekend and a 13-3 run-rule victory at home against Utah Velley on Tuesday. The Cougars have a .283 batting average as a team this season and the pitching staff has posted a 6.28 ERA.
