LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas track and field was represented by senior
Anthony Meacham as the Big 12 Conference's seventh, and final, men's Athletes of the Week of the outdoor season, the conference office announced Wednesday. It is the second straight week he has won the award and he became the first men's athlete to ever win three outdoor Big 12 weekly awards in one season, according to the conference.
Meacham won his third event of the outdoor season at the Rock Chalk Classic this past weekend, clearing 5.81 meters (19-0.75 ft.) to set a new personal best and break the school record for the second straight week. Meacham cleared the bar on his first attempt and currently holds the top clearance in the country, which he has held since April 3rd.
He has cleared the 19-foot mark in back to back meets, and three times this season. Last week, he broke the school record with his 5.80 meters clearance at the John McDonnell invitational, and became the 11th collegian ever to record both an indoor and outdoor 19 foot clearance. He also cleared that height at the Battle on the Bayou earlier this season, but at a pole vault that was moved inside due to weather.
To close the indoor season, he won the Big 12 indoor pole vault title with a, then personal best, 5.65 meters clearance before placing sixth nationally with a 5.70 meters vault, earning first team All-America honors.
The Big 12 Outdoor Athlete of the Week honors are the third of his career, winning the award in week three this season on April 7th and last week on April 29th. He has won two Big 12 Championships in his career, bringing home the crown during the 2026 indoor and 2024 outdoor season, while also finishing third and fourth in 2024 and 2025. The 2026 First Team All-America honors were the first of his career.
Kansas track and field will next be in action at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship on May 14-16 in Tucson, Ariz. Meacham will be looking to add a third Big 12 title to his resume and carry momentum into the NCAA West Preliminary on May 27-30.
