Kansas Receives PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas men's golf team is one of a record 331 schools across six divisions to earn the 2025-26 PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award, which was announced Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Kansas receives the Team Academic Award for the third time in head coach Jamie Bermel's tenure, and first since claiming the honor back-to-back in 2016 and 2017. The Jayhawks had a team GPA of 3.61 in the fall and 3.68 during the spring semester, which totaled out to a 3.65 combined team GPA for the year. Kansas is one of 155 schools to receive Presidents Special Recognition for having an average team GPA of 3.5 or above in 2025-26. Programs awarded PLATFORM Team Academic Award must boast a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0.

"I'm really proud of all the guys and the work they do in the classroom," Bermel said of the honor. "We have a very busy tournament schedule, and they all seem to take care of their business. A lot of the credit goes to our academic center, specifically Kara Wiebe. She is an amazing counselor and really works hard to keep our guys on task."

Earlier this week, Kansas had three golfers named Cobalt All-America Scholars as seniors Will King and Luke Honner earned the honor along with sophomore Hartej Grewal. King previously made history as a two-time Big 12 Men's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year and is a two-time College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection, while Honner is a two-time All-America Scholar and CSC Academic All-District honoree.

The GCAA's mission is to support its member coaches from six divisions by creating educational opportunities, providing resources, and promoting its members with the purpose of enhancing their overall performance as coaches, mentors, and teachers.
