Jayhawks Hang on For Second Win of the Season at Windon Memorial

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - For the second time in three tournaments, the Kansas men's golf team recorded a first-place team finish at the Windon Memorial Classic. The Jayhawks concluded the three-round event with a score of 836 (-4), which placed the Jayhawks one shot ahead of Washington on the leaderboard.

Junior Hartej Grewal led all Jayhawk finishers, placing in a tie for fourth at 206 (-4), four shots back of the individual medalist Zhenxian Zhang of UC Davis.

The team victory marks the 18th of Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel's tenure and the 55th in program history. The victory, combined with KU's two-shot win at the New York Harbor Cup earlier this month, gives Kansas multiple events victories in a season for the first time since 2021.

"Great team win today," Bermel said. "It wasn't our best day, but we hung around and converted some clutch pars the last couple of holes. Winning is hard, and the guys showed a lot of grit and toughness and found a way to win."

Washington rallied to tie the score late in the final round before dropping a shot and finishing second, one shot behind Kansas at -3. Notre Dame (+1), Cal Poly (+5) and Indiana (+5) rounded out the top five.

Grewal opened the event on the front foot with a 69 (-1) in the first round, before building on it with a 67 (-3) in round two. The junior tallied 10 birdies across the three rounds. Grewal's tie for fourth place marks his third top five finish as a Jayhawk.

Sophomore Arthur Carlier tallied a top 10 finish at the Windon Memorial, finishing tied for eighth at 208 (-2). The finish was Carlier's second top 10 of the season, after winning the New York Harbor Cup to open the year.

Senior Will Baker carded an even-par outing, finishing tied for 15th in his eighth top 20 finish of his career. Baker tallied 11 birdies across the three rounds, including a 69 (-1) in the opening round.

Freshman Nicolas Vidal-Reig finished in 43rd at 215 (+5), highlighted by an eagle on 10 during his opening round of play, his first of the season and of his career.

Junior Noah Holtzman finished just behind Vidal-Reig in a tie for 50th, wrapping up the event with an even-par third round to end at 217 (+7).

"Arthur made a critical up and down on his last hole and Hartej two-putted from about 60 fee," Bermel added. "Hartej, Will and Arthur had a good week. Nico struggled on greens but played solid. Noah played well the last two rounds and we needed him. That's what seniors should do and he stepped up and played his heart out."
