GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Fresh off a victory at the New York Harbor Cup, the Kansas men's golf team is set to travel to American Dunes Golf Course for the fifth annual Folds of Honor Collegiate. The Jayhawks will compete in three days of action, beginning on Monday, September 7.
Kansas is one of 15 teams headed to Grand Haven, Michigan for the tournament, which is hosted by Michigan State. Joining the two are Air Force, Alabama, Army, Cincinnati, Florida A&M, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Grand Valley State, Navy, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Texas.
"I think we will be ready to play this week in Michigan," Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. "The lights are a bit brighter, and I am confident we will respond."
The Jayhawks are coming off a two-stroke team victory at the New York Harbor Cup, in which sophomore Arthur Carlier claimed his first career individual co-championship at -12 (67-68-66). It was the 17th team title of Bermel's tenure, and the 54th in program history. It was also the 17th individual title of Bermel's time at Kansas, and the 58th in Kansas men's golf history.
Carlier's outing included a pair of eagles and a -5 third round, the lowest third round score of anyone in the field.
Alongside Carlier, Bermel will send some the same faces to Michigan that helped secure the team victory at Bayonne.
Freshman Nicolas Vidal Reig finished his first tournament as a Jayhawk at -9 (66-67-71), good for third overall and three shots behind his teammate. He posted the third-lowest score of round one, shooting a -5 (66) to open the event.
Junior Ty Lasley's -2 (66-72-73) left him third among the Jayhawks and tied for 13th overall.
Senior Will Baker notched his seventh career top-20 finish with an even par, 17th place outing.
Joining them will be senior Max Jelinek, who competed for the Jayhawks in the 2024 edition of the Folds of Honor and finished 37th.
"Switched the lineup a little this week and put in Max Jelinek," Bermel said. "Max had a good summer and has his game in good form right now. He has played this course before and knows what to expect.
The 2026 appearance marks Kansas' fifth at the Folds of Honor. The Jayhawks are one year removed from the program's highest team finish in the event in 2025, where Kansas finished T-3 with Cincinnati.
The Folds of Honor was founded by Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney, a former Jayhawk and golfer at Kansas. Since its inception in 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded nearly 73,000 scholarships totaling over $340 million to children of US Military members and first responders fallen or wounded in the line of duty.
The 54-hole tournament is set to be played at American Dunes, designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. Opened in 2021, the facility has played host to each of the previous four editions of the event.
