A Lawrence native, Peterson accepted the position at Kansas in August of 2012 after spending the last two seasons as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Niagara University. Last summer, Peterson also served as the head coach for the Chillicothe Mudcats of the MINK Summer Collegiate League.
Prior to his time at Niagara, Peterson was the pitching coach, recruiting coordinator and tournament director at Fort Scott Community College. In addition to his coaching responsibilities at Fort Scott, he acted as the head of game day administration and served as an associate scout for the Cleveland Indians under former Kansas assistant coach, Steve Abney.
Peterson began his coaching career at Pittsburg State University, where he served as a graduate assistant from 2007-08. As a grad assistant, he was the Gorillas[apos] pitching coach, recruiting coordinator and head assistant of game day administration.
He played two seasons under Price at Kansas, pitching in 12 games for the Jayhawks during the 2003 season. He finished his career at Pittsburg State, where he posted a 1-0 record and a 3.10 ERA during the 2005 season. He earned his undergraduate (2006) and master[apos]s degrees (2008) from Pittsburg State in sports administration.
A 2002 graduate of Free State High School, Peterson resides in Lawrence with his son, Jack (3).
