Bob Frederick Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year… Marlene Mawson Female Athlete of the Year… Named to the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Team… Second all-time kills leader with 1,309 career kills… Seventh all-time with a 3.18 kills per set career average… Saw action in all 116 sets and started in 26 matches… Led team with 407 kills, which ranks eighth in KU[apos]s single-season record list… Had 24 matches with double-digit kills… Paced the Jayhawks with 4.00 kps and a .290 attack percentage during the Creighton Bluejay Invitational to earn MVP honors… Averaged 4.50 kps on a .276 clip to earn all-tournament team accolades at the Kansas Invitational… Collected a season-high 27 kills on a .458 attack percentage versus Winthrop on Sept. 10… Hit 12 kills in the conference opener at Kansas State on Sept. 15 in the first of 11-straight matches with 10 or more kills… Recorded a career-best .615 attack percentage on 16 kills versus Texas Tech on Oct. 30.
2009: Junior Season
Started 22 of 29 matches at outside hitter… An Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree for the second time in her career… Named to the MTSU All-Tournament Team after pacing the Jayhawks with 2.91 kps and adding four service aces… Also selected to the Arkansas All-Tournament Team for leading KU with 3.67 kps in three victories… Second on the team and eighth in the Big 12 averaging 3.31 kps during the season… Led the Jayhawks in kills 12 times… Recorded 10 or more kills 15 times, including a season-high mark of 28 versus Oklahoma (Sept. 23), one shy of her career tally… Also made 79 total attempts against the Sooners, which was the most by a KU player since 2001… Collected 20 kills in KU[apos]s home opener versus Lipscomb (Sept. 4) and again at Missouri (Sept. 16)… Served three aces versus Xavier (Aug. 29)… Recorded five games with a .400-plus hitting percentage, including a season-best .481 attack percentage on 15 kills versus Missouri (Oct. 24)… Followed that performance with 10 kills on a .429 clip versus UMKC (Oct. 27)… Blocked a season high four total balls and added a team-high 19 kills in the team[apos]s upset over No. 21 Baylor (Nov. 14).
2008: Sophomore Season
Started all 29 matches and appeared in all 110 sets, becoming Kansas[apos] most consistent offensive threat… Selected ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic All-District and Academic All-Big 12 First Team… Led the team with the program[apos]s ninth-best single season average of 3.66 kps, which also ranked fifth in the Big 12… Also served a team-high 33 aces and ranked sixth in the Big 12 with 0.30 aces per set… Her 403 kills on the year were one shy of cracking the top 10 of KU[apos]s single season records… Paced the Jayhawks in kills in 21 matches and posted five double-doubles… Had six matches of 20 or more kills… Earned KU[apos]s second-ever AVCA National Player of the Week accolade and first since 2005 on Nov. 11 after hitting a .354 clip, while averaging 5.0 kills, 1.67 digs and 5.75 points per set in a pair of conference sweeps against Colorado and Texas Tech… Was also named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 10… Named to all three tournament teams during the year… Served a career-high five aces in win over NC State on Aug. 30, while adding 14 kills… Slammed 21 kills on a season-high .436 hitting percentage during a win against Cleveland State on Sept. 12… Notched the most kills by a Jayhawk since 2000 with 29 tallies versus Iowa State on Sept. 20… Her 29 kills were also the second-most by a Big 12 player during 2008… Had a personal-best five total blocks against Kansas State on Oct. 1… Recorded a career-best 17 digs in a five-set win against Missouri on Oct. 29 to go along with a team-high 19 kills. 2007: Freshman Season
Played in 29 matches and made 18 starts … Saw limited floor time at the beginning of the season but worked her way into starting rotation to play 71-of-76 conference games … Twenty-six of her team-high 29 service aces came in Big 12 Conference matches … Sixth in the Big 12 with 0.33 aces per game … Served up multiple aces nine times, including four of the last five matches … Chipped in 2.00 kpg and 1.83 dpg … Dug up 10 or more digs seven times … Had a career-high three block assists at Oregon on Aug. 25 and again in her home state of Colorado on Nov. 10 … Swung at a team-best .462 clip (7K-1E-13TA) during the team[apos]s home opener versus UMKC on Sept. 4 … Went 7-for-12 in kills with just one error for a career-high .500 hitting percentage against St. Peter[apos]s College on Sept. 7 … Tallied 11 digs, her first double-digit dig outing, against Wyoming on Sept. 7 … Led KU with 14 kills and three aces in a victory over Texas Tech on Sept. 22 … Helped KU defeat Colorado on Oct. 10 with 12 digs and three service aces … Led the Jayhawks with 13 digs at No. 1 Nebraska on Oct. 20 and added eight kills … Recorded her first career double-double versus Oklahoma on Nov. 3 with 12 kills and 15 digs … Notched another double-double (11 kills, 10 digs) in four games at nationally-ranked Kansas State on Nov. 14 … Ended the season with a career-high four aces at Texas Tech on Nov. 21.
High School
Graduated from Grandview High School and was coached by Patty Childress … A first team all-conference and second team all-state selection in 2006 … Chosen as Grandview[apos]s female athlete of the year as a senior … Winner of back-to-back state championships in high school (2004 and 2005) and also back-to-back national championships with Front Range club team … Coached by Jim Miret in club ball … Helped the Wolves to three consecutive district titles from 2004-06 … High school team went undefeated during regular season play in 2004 … Also lettered in spring board diving … Was a diving All-American consideration in 2003 and the Wolves[apos] diving MVP in 2003 and 2004.
Personal
Parents are Randy and Tina Garlington… Has one sister, Christie… Cousins, Andrew and Anthony, ran track and field at Adams State University and Columbia University, respectively, while Taj, also a cousin, played basketball at Navy… A sports management major.
