Bernie Compton joined the Kansas soccer staff in July 2024.
Compton spent the last nine years working with the women’s soccer program at Bowling Green State. She was named the program's Director of Operations prior to the 2019 season, and helped the Falcons earn Mid-American Conference titles and NCAA Championships appearances in four-straight years from 2018-21.
In June 2021, Compton received the Diversity & Inclusion Award at the Ziggys, the athletic department's end-of-year (virtual) awards ceremony. The award is given to just one individual each year. Compton earned that award again at the 2023 Ziggys.
Prior to assuming her operations role, Compton spent four years as the sport psychology consultant for the women's soccer program, as well as several other BGSU teams. Compton is still currently a doctoral candidate in leadership studies in the School of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Policy at BGSU.
Compton earned a Master of Arts degree from BGSU in 2019 in American Cultural Studies, with a concentration in Sport Psychology. She was a graduate teaching assistant in the fall of 2015, her first semester at BGSU, before becoming an instructor of record.
Compton earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Arkansas in 2013, with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. She earned a Master of Science degree in Sports Leadership, with a concentration in sport psychology, from Miami University in 2015.
In addition to teaching several undergraduate courses, Compton served as a mentor for undergraduate sport management students interested in sport psychology at BGSU.
