TOPEKA, Kan. – Kansas swim and dive finished another strong outing in the second day of the Kansas Classic on Saturday, ending the night with a commanding lead in the standings with 836.50 total points. Iowa State sits in second place with 450 and Miami (Florida) rounds out the top-three with 369 points.
The team opened up the finals with their first of four meet records with the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome of Manon Manning, Kate Steward, Kaitlyn Witt and Carly Straight completed the event in 1:40.06, which broke the record of 1:40.94 set last year by Kansas.
For Manning and Steward, this was the first of their record-breaking performances for the day. Steward continued her hot streak from day one by setting the new meet record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a final time of 1:00.80. Manning, on the other hand, did her work in the backstroke where the junior broke the record in the 100 with a final time of 52.75.
Senior Jenny Nusbaum got in on the record-breaking action in the 200-yard freestyle where she broke the same record she set last season with a final time of 1:47.59.
