SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – No. 15 Kansas Soccer tied the school record for the most goals scored in a match with a 7-0 shutout win against Missouri State at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on Sunday. Kansas had five goal scorers, with Caroline Castans and Faith Johnston scoring two goals apiece, and Kate Langfelder, London De Fini and Marit McLaughlin scoring one goal each.

The seven goals set a new school record for the most goals ever scored against a Division I opponent and in a match on the road. Kansas scored seven goals versus Division II Francis Marion on Oct. 19, 2008. It is the first time Kansas has had five different goal scorers since Aug. 25, 2019 vs. Loyola-Chicago.

"I'm really proud of our team," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "It was very hot out here and we had to move the game. To come out and put in a professional performance, it shows our growth and our maturity. It was a nice statement of intent. The final score got out of hand a little bit on the scoreboard, but it wasn't indicative of the game. Missouri State is a very good team."

Lie continued, "One thing I'm really proud of is that we challenged the team at halftime to stay on the front foot, to stay on the gas, no matter what the score was. First, we wanted to score a third goal to get a little breathing room. If we did, we would make subs and we were going to play everyone on the team, but we weren't going to lower the standard. We weren't going to lay off the gas. It was really nice to see Faith get those goals at the end. We're a deep team. We've talked about it. It should be a differentiator for us, so I'm really glad to be able to get so many players on the field today as well."

Kansas (2-0-0) started the match quickly once again, scoring two goals in the first half to take a commanding 2-0 lead into halftime. The Jayhawks got on the board just six minutes in, as Langfelder took a deflection and struck the ball past the Missouri State goalkeeper to score her first goal of the season. In the 18th minute, Gianna Weiner advanced the ball to De Fini, who was able to get her foot on the ball while falling down to give Kansas a 2-0 lead.

Kansas held an 11-1 shot advantage over Missouri State (0-1-0) and took nine corners in the first half.

The Jayhawks continued to score goals with five coming in the second half. In the 51st minute, De Fini advanced the ball up to Castans on the left side of the field where she took a high arcing shot that went over the goalkeeper to increase the lead to 3-0. Eleven minutes later, Castans took control of a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box and fired a shot past the goalkeeper to score her second goal of the day.

In the 75th minute, Livvy Moore crossed the ball into the box to generate a potential goal scoring opportunity. McLaughlin was able to barely get her foot on the ball and redirected it into the back of the net to score Kansas' fifth goal of the match.

Johnston added two more goals herself in the span of just three minutes to give Kansas seven goals in the match. In the 85th minute, De Fini crossed the ball to the far side of the goal, where Sophia Mir was able to pass the ball to Johnston for her to score her first goal. She was able to score another strike in the 88th minute to close the match at 7-0.

Kansas outshot Missouri State 20-1 in the match while holding a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Kansas is now unbeaten in 12 straight non-conference matches, beginning on Sept. 5, 2024 at Vanderbilt.
Kansas' seven goals tied the school record for the most goals in a match (7 vs. Francis Marion on Oct. 19, 2008). The seven goals are the most scored ever against a Division I opponent and are the most scored on the road in program history.
Kansas' 20 points in the match set a new program record. The previous record was 19 vs. Francis Marion on Oct. 19, 2008.
Kansas has recorded shutouts in back-to-back matches to start the season. The last time Kansas recorded shutouts in back-to-back matches to begin a season was 2020.
Kansas scored a season-high seven goals against Missouri State on Sunday. The Jayhawks have scored 12 goals in the last two meetings against the Bears.
Kansas tied a program record with only one shot allowed (Sept. 15, 2024 vs. Friends, Aug. 18, 2024 at Drake, Aug. 31, 2003 vs. Evansville and Sept. 27, 1998 vs. Western Illinois).
It is the first time Kansas has had five different goal scorers since Aug. 25, 2019 vs. Loyola-Chicago.
Langfelder scored her first goal of the season, and the third of her career.
De Fini scored her first goal of the season, and recorded her first, second, and third assists to tally five points. The last Kansas player to record five points in a match was Lexi Watts against Utah Valley on Aug. 22, 2025.
Weiner tallied her first assist of the season.
Castans scored her first and second goals of the season, which are the seventh and eighth of her career. She has now matched her season goal total from last season. It was the second brace of her career (Oct. 25, 2024 at Kansas State).
McLaughlin scored her first goal of her career.
Johnston scored her first two goals of the season, marking her fourth and fifth career goals. It was the first brace of her career.
Mir recorded her first assist of her career.
Moore tallied her first assist of the season, and her sixth assist as a Jayhawk.
