BOULDER, Colo. – No. 8 Kansas Volleyball (11-1, 2-0 Big 12) is set to take on the Colorado Buffaloes (7-7, 0-2 Big 12) Thursday night inside the CU Events Center.
"We have three consecutive road matches ahead of us and we're excited to play a quality Colorado team to kick that off," said Kansas Head Coach Ray Bechard. "Good teams are intentional and consistent in execution and effort regardless of where the match is played, and this stretch of matches will give us the opportunity to demonstrate that."
Kansas comes into their first Big 12 road game as winners of 11 of their first 12 contests this season. Kansas opened conference play with two wins over UCF and Houston last week inside Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena, where Kansas is 25-3 in their last 28 games at home.
The Jayhawks have been just as good on the road however, as the Jayhawks come into Thursday's match 2-0 on the road this season, and 3-0 at neutral sites in the 2024 campaign. Kansas was ranked at number eight in the latest AVCA poll, up one spot from their number nine rank last week.
Senior setter
Camryn Turner is currently leading the nation in assists/set with 11.68, marking her second-consecutive week at the top of the Division I leaderboard. Turner's impact has also pushed the Jayhawks to the No. 1 team assists/set (13.85) and No. 2 hitting percentage (.327) spots in the DI rankings.
The Jayhawks are also No. 3 in the kills per set category, averaging 14.65 kills per set through the first 12 matches of the year.
Toyosi Onabanjo joins Turner on the individual leaderboard with the No. 8 hitting percentage in the country, averaging .467 out of the middle.
Colorado comes into Thursday night having lost three matches in a row, and four out of their last five. The Buffaloes just completed the trip out to Utah, where they were handed losses by both BYU and Utah. Colorado comes into the match having lost two in a row at home, but the Buffaloes have a 4-4 mark at the CU Events Center this season.
Kansas has won seven of the last nine match ups with the Buffaloes, including a 3-1 win over Colorado last year in Wichita. Colorado holds the all-time series lead against Kansas 34-17, and the Buffaloes have held down their home court against the Jayhawks, leading the all-time series 19-4 in Boulder.
