CINCINNATI – No. 8 Kansas Volleyball stayed unbeaten Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep over the Cincinnati Bearcats at Fifth Third Arena. Kansas was led by freshman
Reese Ptacek who totaled 13 kills, setting a new career high. Ptacek finished the match with a .812 hitting percentage, while Kansas as a team finished with a hitting percentage of .416.
"Our serving really created our momentum today and we were very efficient offensively as well," said Kansas Head Coach Ray Bechard. "We are all excited to get back home to compete after a successful three match road trip."
Kansas was able to start the match on the right foot by setting the pace early against the Bearcats. The Jayhawks grabbed four of the first five points, and used five kills a piece from
Rhian Swanson and Ptacek to top the Bearcats in the opening set 25-21.
The Jayhawks kept the momentum rolling in the second set. Behind three separate scoring runs of five consecutive points or more, Kansas cruised to a 25-11 second-set victory. Ptacek and Swanson added three more kills in the set, and senior
Camryn Turner chipped in eight assists in the set.
Kansas closed out the Bearcats with a 25-18 win in the third set to complete the sweep. Ptacek notched five more kills in the final frame, as did senior
Caroline Bien. Everyone on the Kansas offense got involved as
Toyosi Onabanjo and
Ayah Elnady both grabbed two kills, and Turner added 11 more assists to close the book on the Jayhawks' fifth straight win.
