MANHATTAN, Kan. - No. 11 Kansas Volleyball is set to travel to Manhattan to take on in-state rival Kansas State in the Dillon's Sunflower Showdown, with first serve set for 2 p.m. inside Morgan Family Arena.
"Anytime you're involved in a rivalry game you expect a great environment, and you expect both teams to play inspired volleyball," said Kansas Head Coach Ray Bechard. "We're excited for that challenge."
Kansas comes into Sunday's match well-rested, after not playing a match since last Saturday, which was a sweep over then No. 17 Baylor. The Jayhawks tallied another ranked win last week as well, as they topped TCU in four sets. Kansas is ranked 11th in the country, with a 22-3 record, with a 13-2 record in conference play, and an impressive 7-2 mark in road contests this season.
Kansas State comes into Sunday's bout losers in three of their last four matches. Most recently, the Wildcats traveled to UCF, where the Knights bested K-State in a five-set thriller in Orlando. The Wildcats are 10-14 on the season, with an 8-7 record in conference play. K-State is just under .500 with a 5-6 record at Morgan Family Arena.
These two in-state rivals have met 105 times on the volleyball court all time, and once already this season. Kansas topped the Wildcats earlier this season at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena in five sets to move their current win streak against the Wildcats to seven. Kansas has won nine of the last 10 matchups with the Wildcats, including the last three games in Manhattan.
