LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas Volleyball is set to take on the Colgate Raiders in the first round of the NCAA Tournament inside Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena, with first serve for Friday's match being set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
"Colgate has demonstrated a competitive consistency over time representing their conference in the last four NCAA tournaments," said Kansas Head Coach Ray Bechard. "They are well coached and they play hard with great enthusiasm."
Kansas enters the NCAA Tournament as the number three seed in the Louisville Quarter. Kansas has now hosted the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year and has made the postseason for a fourth straight season under Bechard.Â
The Jayhawks finished the 2024 regular season with a 24-4 record, and a 15-3 mark in Big 12 play, good for a second-place finish in the conference, behind fellow three-seed Arizona State.Â
The Jayhawks feature four members of the All-Big 12 First Team in seniors
Ayah Elnady,
Camryn Turner,
Toyosi Onabanjo, and Big 12 Freshman of the Year
Reese Ptacek. Kansas also has two members of the All-Big 12 Second Team, with seniors
Caroline Bien and
London Davis leading the way.Â
The Kansas offense finished first in the Big 12 and fourth in the country in kills per set with 14.55. Turner also finished fourth in the country in assists per set with 11.40.
Colgate, like Kansas, has made four straight NCAA Tournaments as winners of the Patriot League. The Raiders are led by 2024 Patriot League Player of the Year Milan Bayless. In her sophomore season for Colgate, she tallied 311 kills, 184 digs, and 54 total blocks.
Bayless was not the only Raider on the All-Patriot League First Team, as outside hitter Abby Shadwick was also named to the first team. Setter Sydney Jones and right side Tiana Owens were named to the All-Patriot League second team in 2024 as well.Â
Kansas and Colgate met on September 1, 2024 inside Cameron Indoor Arena for the last game of the Duke Tournament. Kansas swept the Raiders behind 12 Elnady kills and 34 Turner assists to capture the Duke Tournament title in 2024.Â
