LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas Volleyball will kick off their 2024 season this weekend in Durham, North Carolina at historic Cameron Indoor Stadium as a participant in the Duke Tournament.Â
"We are excited to open up our 2024 season with a tournament that will include four quality programs that have high expectations for the year," said Kansas Head Coach Ray Bechard. "Each match will provide us with unique opportunities, and we look forward to the challenges they each present."
Kansas will kick off their 27th season under Bechard, the all-time wins leader within the program. The Jayhawks hosted in the 2023 NCAA Volleyball Tournament but dropped a five-set heartbreaker at the hands of Penn State in the Round of 32.Â
Kansas returns 13 players from the 2023 campaign, including preseason all-Big 12 selections
Ayah Elnady,
London Davis, and defending Big 12 Setter of the Year,
Camryn Turner. Six freshmen have been added to the mix, most notably preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year
Zoey Burgess.Â
Kansas will open the season with SEC opponent South Carolina on Friday, August 30th at 2 p.m. The Gamecocks finished 11-16 last season, but had key wins against Alabama, Georgia, and a sweep over eighth-ranked Tennessee.Â
Kansas will play the tournament's hosts, Duke on Saturday at 2 pm. Duke tallied a record of 19-10 last season and saw success in 2023, sweeping fellow ACC opponents Virginia Tech, Clemson, Syracuse, and Virginia.Â
Kansas will close the Duke Tournament on Sunday at 10:30 AM against the Colgate Raiders. Colgate recorded a 22-8 record in 2023 that included winning the Patriot League championship in a sweep over American University. The Raiders would fall to Creighton in the NCAA Tournament, but return key talent in 2024.
